We are delighted to welcome Professor Harry Kennedy, Clinical Director of the National Forensic Mental Health Service, Central Mental Hospital and Clinical Professor of Forensic Psychiatry, University of Dublin, Trinity College who will present on the topic _The Criminal Mind.
There is a popular perception that all crime can be explained by social factors or mental disorder, or both. Can crime be defined in some scientific way? Can the mind be known as a factual matter for the courts to judge? How much of what passes for liberal sentiment and scientific research can stand up to scrutiny? In a media world where psychiatry is interpreted by journalists and justice is fictionalised, one must be sceptical.
